Together with pianist Mathias Halvorsen, Mathieu has arranged several operas for violin and piano: Puccini’s La Bohème, Tosca & Madame Butterfly, as well as Strauss’ Salome. They perform the opera’s from beginning to end, with the text being projected above them while playing. The concept has been very popular, with these operas having been performed in Germany, The Netherlands, Norway, Iceland and France, including in halls like the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg and Beethovenhaus Bonn. Their recording of La Bohème has been critically acclaimed, being chosen as chamber music choice of the month by BBC Music Magazine, and other 5-star reviews in newspapers like the Sunday Times.
They have also arranged Mahler’s 5th symphony for violin and piano.
